THE Ragamuffins will headline Rock on the Rec, a day-long music festival in Ribchester on Saturday.

Held on Ribchester playing fields, the event will feature four other bands performing live - The Pinstripe Pigeon Band, Electric Circus, Tindrumm and 53 Degrees North plus a DJ set by Lauren Byrne.

Rock on the Rec is being organised by Ribchester Rovers Football Club as part of its fundraising effort to raise money for new changing rooms. As well as live music from 1pm to 7pm there will also be a bar, barbecue and pizza stalls and a raffle. The event is free but the club will be asking for donations for the changing room appeal

Organisers hope that the current dilapidated, pre-war pavilion can be replaced with a new, eco friendly pavilion almost four times the size of the current one which will conform to all current Sport England and FA standards.

The club believe that a new pavilion is essential, not just for Ribchester Rovers but the whole village.

Committee Member Ben Jones said: "It will have an inspirational impact for many years to come. As well as both adult and junior football teams using it for regular training and matches, Ribchester's St Wilfred's Primary School will have access to improve their sports facilities and activities, which are very limited on the current school site. It will also be a fantastic base and opportunity for field activity clubs or events that arise in the future."

It will have two 16 person changing rooms with toilets and four shower cubicles in each as well as two officials changing rooms also with shower and toilet. Plus it will take into account the needs of people with disabilities, including a disabled toilet and changing room. There will also be a large storage area for kit and equipment as well as for other sport and field day equipment.

Rock on the Rec is part of a whole host of live music and drama happening in the village during Ribfest, more details at www.ribfest.co.uk
