A 21-year-old was allegedly punched, kicked and stamped on by two men in what police said was an unprovoked attack on a nightclub dancefloor.

The victim’s 23-year-old friend tried to help him but was also allegedly assaulted, kicked in the face and knocked unconscious.

Police said the attack, at Sanctuary Rock Bar in Burnley, at around 1.15am yesterday, had left the first man awaiting surgery for a broken jaw and two lost front teeth.

Two men were arrested shortly after the incident at separate locations in Burnley town centre and were being held in police custody last night.

DS Alisa Wilson, of East Lancashire CID, said: “The assault was unprovoked and the victims have sustained nasty injuries.

“I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the assault, or who may have information about the assault, to contact Burnley police on 101, quoting log reference 220/1409.”

In separate assault at around 3.10am yesterday, a 24-year-old university graduate was pushed by an unknown attacker outside Vogue nightclub in Rawtenstall, where he had been celebrating his friend’s birthday.

The offender and three associates followed the victim past Mimi’s Takeaway, in Bacup Road, where an altercation took place around the corner and he was headbutted.

The offender was white, aged between 20 and 22, 5ft 3in or 5ft 4in, with short, brown hair.

“As a result of the assault, the victim lost his front teeth and was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment.

DS Wilson said of the second attack: “This was an unprovoked assault on a man who was enjoying a night out and I am keen to trace the offenders.

“I would like anyone who witnessed the assault, or who may know who the offenders, are to contact Burnley police on 101 quoting log reference 98/1409.”
