IT’S 50 years ago this year since the Rolling Stones played a show at the Imperial Ballroom, Nelson.

Now, a fan is aiming to compile a people's history of the Stones and wants to know if readers would share their memories of the concert.

MORE TOP STORIES:

Richard Houghton wants to know who you went with to the concert, what you remember and whether you enjoyed it.

1964 was the first time the Stones toured the country as a headline act – the group had previously appeared on stage as a support act for the Everly Brothers and Bo Diddley.

The band played at the Imperial on July 25 – they had also played two shows at The Odeon in Blackburn earlier in the year, in March.

Their hit ‘It’s All Over Now’ had just reached number 1 in the charts when they appeared in Nelson and would have been one of the numbers they played.

Richard reckons other hits they would have performed would have included I Wanna Be Your Man, which had been written for them by Lennon and McCartney, and Not Fade Away, their first top 10 hit and a cover of a Buddy a Holly song.

Said Richard: “I am a huge Rolling Stones fan, having seen them live many times. I have more than 60 of their CDs and albums and also collect books about them, with more than 200 to date.

"I decided to write this book because although there are loads of books and articles about the Stones there has been very little written about their earliest fans. Many of those fans, like the Stones themselves, have some great stories to tell.”
