OFFICERS in East Lancashire are reminding residents to be vigilant after a spate of break-ins and thefts from vehicles.

Last weekend, 26 vehicle crimes were reported across the region after car windows were smashed and property stolen.

Officers said the vehicles had been left unlocked and work vans were being targeted for tools. Of these, 11 of the incidents took place in the Rosehill, Ightenhill and Coalclough areas of Burnley, while a further six happened in the Woodnook and Barnfield areas of Accrington.

Other areas affected included the Mill Hill area in Blackburn.

Sgt Andy Horne, of East Division, said: “Wherever they may live, I would advise all vehicle owners to ensure that their vehicles are locked and secured to avoid becoming the victim of thefts.

“The dark nights are drawing in so keep your cars parked in well-lit areas, remove work tools from vans to somewhere secure and lock your motorcycles and mopeds away. Don’t leave your valuables on display.”
