INTRUDERS who forced their way into the home of a 95-year-old man and his 86-year-old wife and robbed them in their own East Lancashire village home have been condemned.

Detectives from East CID launched an investigation after the OAPs were attacked on the doorstep of their home in Railway Street, Foulridge, last Saturday.

Even before the pair burst into the isolated property, police believe that they cut the telephone wires to the property so that the alarm could not be raised.

The pair were assaulted in the property and the elderly man's wallet was stolen.

As part of the raid the robbers are also said to have walked off with their television.

Coun Graham Waugh, chairman of the Colne area committee, who lives in Foulridge, said: "I am absolutely disgusted by this - it's just a horrible thing to happen.

"I hope that when these people are dealt with by the courts they not only take into account what they have done, but the age of those who have fallen victim to this.

"The trouble with that particular area is that "My wife's grandmother fell foul to something like this a couple of years ago, when two men posing as water board officials called on her.

"It was another 18 months before she died but she went downhill very quickly after that."

An appeal has been issued for anyone who may still know anything about the incident.
