A MAN arrested on suspicion of murder has been told he will face no further action after a woman was found dead at her home.

Mum-of-five Lynnsey Catley, 37, was discovered at her modern terraced house in St Mary’s Close, in Audley, Blackburn.

A 40-year-old man, also from Blackburn, was arrested at the scene but police said last night that the death was no longer being treated as suspicious.

Paramedics called police after they found Miss Catley’s body at around 5.40pm on Thursday.

A post-mortem examination carried out yesterday afternoon confirmed that Miss Catley died as a result of hanging.

Neighbours said a heavy police presence remained at St Mary’s Close overnight on Thursday, while forensics experts had also examined the property.

Yesterday, PCSOs guarded the door as some residents lay floral tributes at the front door.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: “A 40-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested in connection with the incident but has now been released without charge.

“The matter has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as a matter of routine as the deceased had contacted police earlier on the afternoon of Thursday. This earlier contact is entirely unrelated to subsequent events.”

It is understood that police visited Miss Catley at her home on two occasions on Thursday afternoon but received no answer on either occasion.

Jay Hall, who runs TD and J Hall Convenience Store, in Shadsworth Road, said Miss Catley was a frequent customer in his shop.

He said: “From what we know of her, she was a very pleasant girl. She used to pop in every Friday with the kids and she seemed a really nice woman.”

Blackburn Coroner’s Office confirmed that senior coroner Michael Singleton had been informed about Miss Catley’s death. Police are expected to pass a file to the coroner imminently.

Members of Miss Catley’s family posted tributes to her on social media yesterday.

Her niece, Danni Catley, said: “Worst day of my life. Rest in peace Aunty Lynz, love you so much. Heaven gained a special angel.”

Another niece, Khelsey Catley, said: “RIP auntie Lynnsey, you’re in peace now, love you loads.”

One St Mary’s Close resident, who did not want to be named, said he was shocked to hear about the death.

He said: “I heard about the poor woman being found hanged. I came back from the night shift last night and there were still police here.

“I used to see her now and then but I didn’t know her well. I am shocked.”

A statement from Lancashire police said: “Police were called by the ambulance service at around 5.40pm yesterday to an address on St Mary’s Close, Blackburn, following reports that a woman had been found hanged.

“A 37 year-old-woman was sadly pronounced dead at the address by paramedics.”
