DARWEN Town Council has an unspent balance of funds of £72,415.33 and a reserve of £35,000.
Members of the body have been given a breakdown of expenditure and income at the end of May.
It reveals that the council received £61,000 from the precept on Blackburn with Darwen Borough’s council tax and £10,492.54 from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs as a VAT rebate.
Spending included £6,390.22 on administration and miscellaneous costs of £2,420.85.
The council spent £1,500 on the town’s parks and gave out grants of £7,000.
St George’s Day celebrations cost £2,382.46 compared to a £2.500 budget. Spending on Darwen Live of £24,220.41 was also inside the allocated amount of £30,000 Costs so far towards Darwen’s Dance Festival have been £ 1,097.15 out of a budget of £4,500. So far £345 has been paid towards events for 1940s Day.
Other figures in the budget include £4,000 for the Food Festival, £1,000 for the Beer Festival and £5,000 to support Darwen Brass Band.
Also included in the figures, given to the meeting by deputy chairman Pete Hollings, are unspent budgets of £1,500 towards Darwen Day, £2,500 to support military veterans and £10,000 for flower displays.
