WHILE we can’t promise blazing sunshine, it’s set to stay dry this weekend – and that means it’s an ideal opportunity to get out and enjoy the best activities East Lancashire has to offer.

After the damp squib of a Bank Holiday weekend, the Met Office is predicting some better conditions meaning there is a chance to get out and about around the area.

A spokesman said: “As high pressure builds from the west, it will turn dry with variable amounts of cloud and some sunshine.

“Winds becoming light. Feeling pleasant in any sunshine, but chilly overnight.”

We can all take strength from that, which means Saturday’s town centre event organised by Blackburn Youth Zone should be perfect.

They’re staging a Strongman/Strongwoman event from 11am to 4pm, which sees 10 girls and 10 boys from across the network flipping tractor tyres, pulling a mini bus and undertaking deadlift and squat challenges.

Famous strongmen Mark Felix, Wayne Fulton, and Ben France will be turning up to give tips and support outside the town hall in King William Street.

On Saturday, Morrisons in Blackburn is also holding an event to raise funds for the Sue Ryder cancer charity.

So why not take the whole family down to the town centre supermarket? They’ll be bouncy castles, face painting, stalls and refreshments to keep all ages occupied.

There’s a grand opening of HAPPA’s Shores Hey Farm Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Briercliffe, Burnley, from noon to 4pm.

As well as the ribbon being cut, you can also have a look around the new facilities, while kids can join the new and improved Tommy Trotter Club.

There will be displays in the indoor arena, as well as music, dance, poetry, crafts and a bouncy castle. Sunday sees a Loot in the Boot event at Charter Walk shopping centre in Burnley from 10am to 4pm.

Party in the Park takes place at Padiham Memorial Park between noon and 5pm, featuring music and family fun.
