FIVE people have been arrested after police seized a ‘substantial’ amount of suspected crack cocaine and heroin from a house in Blackburn.

Officers raided the property in Witton Parade, having earlier stopped a car in the street, the occupants of which were seen acting suspiciously, police said.

They were talking to the 20 and 21-year-old male occupants of the vehicle around 12.30pm on Thursday when a 46-year-old male relative intervened, believing the men were being questioned about motoring offences.

Police executed a search warrant on the 46-year-old’s house and found what are believed to be class A drugs.

The three men were all arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

While police were still at the scene, a 30-year-old man and 27-year-old woman walked in to the house and were subsequently arrested.

The man was arrested on suspicion of being concerned with the supply of class A drugs.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing a class A drug with intent to supply and possession of a class B drug.

She has been released on bail until January 4.

All four men were still in custody yesterday.

A police spokesman said: “Drugs have a dramatic impact on our communities and can cause serious anti-social behaviour and disruption to local neighbourhoods.

“We will not tolerate the supply of drugs on our streets and we are determined to tackle anyone involved in the supply of drugs head-on.

“The arrests show that we take this type of activity extremely seriously and we would urge members of the public to report any suspicious activity in their areas to us.”
