FARMING is a real family affair for the Fieldings.

Three generations of the family work on the farm, dairy and milk rounds at Pulford Farm Dairies.

And now their business, between Belthorn and Eccleshill, has been named Family Farming Business of the Year at the British Farming Awards.

The prize celebrates the family’s development of the business, which will help it remain secure for generations to come.

For Rebecca Fielding it came as a complete shock.

She said: “There were so many other great businesses. The competition was fierce, so it was good to get to the final eight and then to win was just quite amazing really - a big surprise.

“We all work as a team and we try to progress together. We have always wanted to keep it as a family farm and we always wanted the kids to get into farming, and they all love it.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“Sometimes farming can be quite a depressing industry to be in so it’s nice to win an award, especially as it’s something we love to do.

“Family farming is important because you have got to inspire the next generation to feed the world.”

Rebecca and her husband Colin have two children, Ted and Sam, who help on the farm, as do the children of Colin’s sister Sally, who runs the farm with her partner, Steven Butcher.

Rebecca and Colin both went along to collect their accolade at The Chateau Hotel, in Droitwich.

Pulford Farm Dairies’ main enterprise is a 140-strong herd of pedigree Holsteins, with all the milk bottled on site and distributed to care homes, doorsteps and shops. The family faced stiff competition from around the UK.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The judges said: “This is s great farming family story. They show determination, commitment and the ability to sustain a large family unit. The Fielding family are adding value to their product in extremely challenging times.”
