More than 350 people visited Holy Trinity Church in Mount Pleasant to enjoy a wide range of events at the ‘Confessional Festival’.

Alongside a record store and a vintage shop, people danced to 11 different bands and took pictures in a purpose-built ‘selfie coffin’.

There was a clay pizza oven, a retro sweets shop and a bar available to guests to keep the party going.

For the grand finale, the last hour was dedicated to the late music legend David Bowie with all his tremendous hits echoing off the church walls.

One of the organisers, Pete Eastwood, 50, from Blackburn, said his company Fairground Events’ aim is to ‘put on amazing activities in amazing buildings’.

He said: “The whole event was absolutely incredible.

“I don’t want to be big headed, but from start to finish the whole festival was enjoyed by all and there weren’t any hitches.

“The team; my daughter Emma, 23, Courtney Williams, 19, and Keely Hutchinson, 18, have done a great job after months of hard work and preparation.

“We thought the church looked incredible inside when we first saw it.

“We thought that it would be a brilliant place to hold the festival and it meets our motto.

“The event is great for Blackburn because there is nothing like it in the town.

“It’s something different.

“Where else can you get a 16-year-old and a 60-year-old dancing in the same place to the same song?

“It was a nice friendly atmosphere.

“I will definitely look to put on another festival.”

Blackburn with Darwen Councillor Phil Riley, who represents Roe Lee Ward, said: “The event was terrific.

“I am the chairman of the Friends of Holy Trinity.

“I was very pleased to see this really beautiful space completely flooded with people.

“It is really good to see something different in the town.

“I would encourage everyone to go to the next one.”
