A MAN stole £6,000 from a Burnley mini-market after jumping over the counter and grabbing the cash.

Detectives have issued a witness appeal following the theft which happened at the Spar store in Padiham Road on Saturday.

The theft happened at around 7.10am when the lone man entered the store, jumped over the counter and grabbed the cash as it was being handed over for collection.

The man, who is described as wearing dark clothing with his face covered by a hood, then ram off down Middlesex Avenue, towards Sycamore Avenue.

Detective Sergeant Tom Edmondson, of Burnley CID, said: “The offender managed to get away with almost £6,000 and this is clearly unacceptable.

"We are determined to find them and bring them to justice.

"We believe someone may have seen this person acting suspiciously outside the store in the moments before the theft, or someone may have information that could help us identify them.

"We would urge anyone who can help with our enquiries to get in touch.”
