TWO men have appeared in court charged with assault after a man was left seriously injured after being attacked in a barbers.

Police said a 27-year-old man suffered a fractured skull, a bleed on the brain, a fractured hand and a displaced fracture to his left leg after allegedly being assaulted a barbers in Leeds Road, Nelson, on Saturday.

He was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment.

Police said they believe two men entered the property and attacked the man before making off.

Waquas Sharif, 21, of Ethersall Road, Nelson, was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and appeared before Burnley Magistrates on Tuesday.

He was sent in custody to Burnley Crown Court where he will face a trial on July 28.

A 17-year-old boy from Nelson, who can not be named for legal reasons, appeared at the magistrates court charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and assault by beating.

He was given conditional bail to appear at Burnley Crown Court on July 28.
