A BURNLEY eaterie has been named the finest curry restaurant in the region.

Shimla Spice was named restaurant of the year for the North West at the English Curry Awards.

The awards were held on Monday evening, at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel.

The event welcomed more than 350 attendees from across England in a celebration to reward the best in the curry industry.

The winners of 16 accolades were announced at the 6th annual ceremony.

Yasmin Mahmood, operations director of event organisers Oceanic Consulting, said: “With a vast amount of restaurants and takeaway in England the competition is always fierce.

“To be among such passionate people who love what they do, is truly inspiring.

“Congratulations to Shimla Spice for winning the award.”

As well as recognising the curry industry, the event also raised funds for their official charity partner The Well Foundation.

The glamorous event was hosted by award winning comedian and actor, Mani Liaqat.

Shimla Spice was converted from the former White Hart pub in Church Street in 2014.
