A DELIVERY driver was robbed at knifepoint in an early-morning raid in Altham.

Police said the male victim was parked outside James Dewhurst Ltd in Metcalfe Drive on the Altham Industrial Estate when two men approached his heavy goods vehicle at around 1am this morning.

The men cut the padlock on the back of the artic lorry which set off the alarm. The driver, who is believed to be Eastern European, woke up and let the cab of the vehicle to investigate.

One of the alleged thieves is then said to have threatened him with a knife, whilst the second man emptied the contents of boxes inside the vehicle.

Police said they escaped with £300 of food supplements after causing £1,000 of damage to the lorry.

The men are said to have been wearing dark clothing and had their hoods pulled up throughout the raid.

No arrests have been made.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to Metcalfe Drive in Altham at 1am on September 30 to reports that a delivery driver had been robbed at knife point. Two offenders have threatened a male victim with a knife before leaving the scene with a quantity of food supplements. Damage has also been caused to the vehicle.

"No arrests have been made."
