PEOPLE across East Lancashire have joined together to support Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Schools, churches and community groups all hosted their own events yesterday in an attempt to raise money for the charity which helps support those affected by cancer.

Townfield and Coach House Care in Great Harwood was one of those who held an event to raise money.

Director John Timmins said: “We try to do something different every year for it. This year we had a reminiscing afternoon for people with dementia.

“We had ‘Washboard Annie’ come in and they brought in some old fashioned cleaning equipment, everyone had a great time reminiscing about the good old days.

“Everyone seems to really have enjoyed it, it looks like we’ve raised a lot of money and we had some great cakes and coffee.”

Events took place at St Barnabas CE Primary School in Darwen, Barrowford School, Willow Gardens in Darwen and Skipton Building Society branches to raise money for the charity.

The Mall Blackburn also held a special event where the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Council, Cllr Hussain Akhtar, gave a haircut to council colleague Cllr Sayyed Osman.

The ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ is held each year to raise money to help people and their families suffering from cancer, and last year alone the charity even raise £25million across the country.
