A medical centre in East Lancashire has been rated as ‘requires improvement’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

An inspection was carried out at The Weavers Practice in High Street, Rishton, on July 14 and the report was published earlier this month.

Inspectors found two regulation breaches and now the provider must make essential changes in order to improve their rating.

According to the report some clinical monitoring checks had not been undertaken and some medication reviews were not recorded to a consistently safe standard.

Systems of monitoring and record keeping for staff recruitment, clinical professional memberships and staff immunisation status required improvement.

Staff appraisals had not been undertaken and full staff meetings, including clinical meetings, were found to be held infrequently.

While Covid-19 adjustments had been implemented, audits for infection prevention and control had not been undertaken.

However, staff said they would be willing to improve systems of communication at the practice and an action plan to improve many of the areas identified was in the early stages of implementation.

Many positives were highlighted in the inspection including patient satisfaction.

The practice offered bespoke person centred care to vulnerable, frail, older and housebound patients.

Staff also found the GP practice to be a good place to work and that they felt supported.

A spokesperson said: “The team here at the Weavers Practice are obviously disappointed that CQC has deemed the practice as requires improvement.

“However, we have a solid action plan for improvement that is already being implemented.

“We are delighted that they have recognised that we are responsive and caring as this is the foundation of general practice and our main aim at The Weavers Practice.”
