A Halal Food Festival is set to take place this summer at Ewood Park, the home of Blackburn Rovers.

The event on Sunday May 7 will run in conjunction with an Asian Wedding Expo which will showcase the location as a special events venue.

The Halal Food Festival will be staged both inside and outside of the stadium but not on the pitch on the weekend of the King’s coronation. It is being hosted by Blackburn Rovers. 

Blackburn now has more halal eateries than any other town or city in the North West and comes only second to Manchester for the range of restaurants and dessert parlours on offer.

Steve Waggott CEO at Blackburn Rovers Football Club said: “It is something we have been looking to organise for some time but due to the pandemic were unable to do so.

“The area has a vast array of foods and delicacies which has helped to put Blackburn on the map.

“We thought it would be great for Blackburn to have a big food festival.

“Ewood Park is a great location for an event of this nature  as we have ample space both inside and outside the stadium. There is also good parking and we expect a lot of interest from people from across the region.”

The stalls will be based predominantly on the Jack Walker side of the stadium indoor and outdoor.

In May last year the stadium hosted Eid prayers at the stadium. 

Steve added: “Ewood Park is a great location for an event this nature as we have ample space both inside and outside the stadium. There is also good parking and we expect a lot of interest from people from across the region.

"We have had an amazing response from stall holders already and we only launched on Monday 21 February 

In May last year hundreds turned out to take part in Eid prayers on the pitch at Ewood Park. The gesture was reported on news channels across the world and was even shared on FIFA’s official social media pages.
