Are you looking for fun family activities and events to celebrate the King’s Coronation?

East Lancashire has many exciting events taking place during the Coronation weekend - from parties and concerts to hunting for jewels.

Events have been announced for Blackburn, Darwen, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Accrington, Great Harwood, Nelson and Chorley.

The King’s Coronation Big Street Party – Darwen Town Centre

On bank holiday Monday, May 8, Darwen Town Council will be hosting a big street party with a day of free family fun for all to enjoy.

From 10am to 4pm, at Darwen Market Square there will be a range of activities including magic shows, roving theatre, live music and street food.

Hunt for the Royal Jewels

From May 3 to May 7, families are invited to hunt for the Royal Jewels at Gawthorpe Hall, in Padiham, Burnley.

During that time, the Museum will be hiding jewels around the hall for families to hunt for and they are also asking families to count the number of Union Jack flags on display with one lucky winner receiving a goody bag of souvenirs from their shop.

The museum will be open for the event Wednesday to Sunday between the hours of 12pm and 6pm.

Coronation Celebrations at Accrington Market Hall

Or why not head to Accrington Market Hall and join in the festivities there?

Accrington Market Hall will be hosting a Coronation party with activities on May 6 including a disco, a Royal timeline, a theatre style performance, crown making crafts and pop-up stalls.

All visitors can take part in the activities for free and all are welcome to dress up as kings, queens, princes, and princesses.

Great Harwood Coronation Day

If you are looking for somewhere to watch the Coronation on May 6 with a fantastic atmosphere, why not head to the Bank Mill Centre in Great Harwood.

The Coronation will be streamed live, and the event is open to local people, mainly the elderly, who would like to watch the event in the company of others rather than staying at home by themselves.

The doors will open at 10.30am for those who wish to attend and light refreshments will be available.

Nelson's King Charles III Coronation Celebration

Taking place in Nelson town centre is a Coronation Celebration by Nelson Town Council.

On May 6, the town council have announced an exciting line-up of events to celebrate including:

  • Street artists.
  • Giant screen to watch the Coronation live.
  • Children's entertainment featuring face painting, henna artists, craft activities, hook-a-duck and more.
  • A main stage including live performances from The Take That Experience and other entertainment.
  • A grassed picnic area for high tea fit for a King and for children to enjoy a picnic.
  • Sports activities.
  • A selfie throne - be a King for the day!
  • Stalls and fairground rides.
  • And Bhangra music and Bollywood dancing.

The day will start with the Town Cryer at 10am, followed by a procession led by Accrington Pipe Band leaving from Nelson Library and ending at the Shuttle.

Following the Coronation, the day continues with a stage show hosted by BBC Radio Lancashire’s Hussnain Hanif.

The event will start at 10am to 3pm, is free of charge and children are encouraged to dress in their best outfit fit for a King.

Chorley Picnic in the Park

To celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, Chorley Council will be hosting a family event on May 6 allowing visitors to watch the event on a big screen.

They will be hosting a Chorley Picnic in the Park at Astley Park, Chorley.

Attendees will be able to enjoy their picnics with live entertainment and activities for all to enjoy.

The event will begin at 11am until 3pm and admission is free.

Coronation Concert with Lostock Hall Memorial Band

After the celebrations are over on May 6, residents are invited to enjoy the celebrations on Bank Holiday Monday, May 8.

Taking place at Gibbon Bridge, Green Lane, Chipping, Forest of Bowland, the Coronation Concert by Lostock Hall Memorial Band will be a two-part concert.

From 12pm until 2.30pm there will be Pimm's at 12noon with a two-course lunch at 12.30pm followed by a two-part concert.

The event is priced at £35 per person and £20 for children.
