A video has emerged of what appears to show a Lancashire Police officer kicking and slapping a man being detained in Oswaldtwistle.
This was thought to have taken place near the Spar shop in Thwaites Road, on Saturday, March 9.
The video, which has been circulating on Facebook, shows a man being taken out of a car by two police officers.
A Lancashire Police spokesperson has said the force is aware of the video and it is being investigated by the Professional Standards department.
The officer has been removed from operational roles until the matter is investigated.
In the video, while on the ground and in the process of being handcuffed, the man appears to be kicked in the head by a police officer.
The person who filmed the video can be heard in the background ‘wincing’ after the person appeared to be kicked.
Later in the video, a police officer also appears to slap the man on the head several times. Three officers then lift the man to sitting position.
Police confirmed that the man in the video was being arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
Lancashire Police has said it is investigating the incident.
A police spokesperson said: "We are aware of the video and it is being investigated by our professional standards department.
"The officer has been removed from operational roles until the matter is investigated. The suspect was arrested [on suspicion of] drink driving."
