A taste of Italy is coming to Clitheroe later this year as a coffee shop and deli prepares to open.

Gio's Italian Deli and Coffee Shop is set to open in New Market Street in the coming months.

Joseph Lanzante, who will run the business alongside Chris Tettersall, says he wants to bring a taste of Italy to the town.

“Other coffee shops and cafés in the area all seem the sell the same type of items. We want to be different.”

Pizzas, poached egg and bacon, fresh pasta, and sandwiches made from focaccia bread are some of the items on the menu.

The business is an extension of Joseph’s Street Food Pizza business, a mobile business and catering van which can be hired for events and venues. Joseph ventured into the catering industry in lockdown.

Joseph is the founder of The Men’s Room barber shops, with sites in Whalley and Clitheroe.

“When I was a kid I always worked in restaurants with my family but then I went into hair and beauty, working in barber shops and beauty salons,” he said.

“I started work in the hospitality and catering industry during lockdown when we weren’t able to open our barber shops.

“We offered street food pizzas and takeaways.

“This has evolved since then and now we have taken on the building in Clitheroe.”

Joseph said he is excited to get started on the new business venture.

He said: “I am over the moon and can’t wait to open.

“An interior designer is working on the site as we speak.

"It is going to look elegant and high-end, with a patio area at the side which will be a lovely place to sit on sunny days.

“I want it to be similar to a coffee shop and deli you would find in London in Manchester.”
