A FUN end-of-year production saw a school stage transformed into the Australian outback for ‘I’m a Year 6, Get Me Out of Here’.

Pupils from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Bacup, with help from their class teacher Amy Oldham, scripted their own version of the hit ITV game show ‘I’m a Celebrity’ and they even had special T-shirts made.

However it wasn’t the campmates who undertook the ‘bush tucker trials’, but the headteacher Kathryn Bishop-Horsfield and deputy headteacher David Morrisroe.

In Oldham’s Outback there was a host of delights including curry powder, cold baked beans, spinach, brown sauce and baby food.

The 27 Year six pupils discussed their memories of their time at St Mary’s while guest presenters Ant alias Max King and Dec aka Libbi Riley narrated. Libbi, 10, said: “We have been rehearsing for the past few weeks and we did several dress rehearsals.

“Our production had lots of teacher jokes in it, some of which we had written.

“I have enjoyed my time at St Mary’s and I am going on to All Saints with several of my class mates.

“I will miss my teachers and my friends. I really liked being in reception class because it was great fun and in Year 6 I was a gardener and I had a seed in reception so I got to spend more time in that class.”

Mrs Oldham said her class had worked extremely hard all year and the end-of-year production captured their journey through school.

She said: “Everyone showed their amazing talents by singing personalised songs, learning their lines and helped to make their jungle themed outfits and staging.

“I am very proud of how far Year 6 has come this year and it has been lovely to witness them mature and develop their confidence and self-belief.

“They will be missed greatly.”

Billy Furlong, 10, said: “I played a campmate and in one scene I had to ask the audience to phone a number to select a teacher to do a bush tucker trial. The production was good fun.

“St Mary’s it is a nice place to be in and I really loved going to Robin Wood in Year 6 and I enjoyed all the outdoor activities we did, but the best bit was sleeping in a dormitory with my friends.”
