Monday means evening racing at Windsor and Mythical Madness (6.55) is taken to go one better than when runner up at Redcar on his racecourse debut when finishing with a rare flourish.

An expensive purchase (320,000 Guineas) as a yearling the son of Dubawi will improve with age and has a cracking draw in stall two.

It would be disappointing if the Charlie Appleby-trained didn’t go very close with Mount Shamshan considered the chief threat having finished runner up over a mile at Haydock last time when doing all his best work late on.

I would be surprised if David Probert didn’t make more use of Scoppio De Carro (7.25) than when never dangerous at Sandown last time on his handicap debut.

He had shown enough in maiden company previously to suggest he could get competitive from his current mark (1lb lower than last time) and after only four career starts he is entitled to improve again.

Mission Approved is likely to be all the rage for the 6f handicap with Ryan Moore taking over in the plate for the first time this term. He has the ideal draw next to the stands’ rail but both his career wins have been gained over 7f and he has hinted that he needs a sterner test in both starts so far this term.

Despite a poor draw I am willing to give Polybius (7.55) another chance for David Simcock; the selection has only raced three times but won over C&D last month on his penultimate start before being backed as if defeat was out of the question last time.

He was beaten less than 2l on that occasion and perhaps inexperience was to blame. He has been dropped 1lb from his last start and jockey Ted Durcan faces a difficult task trying to get cover from the outside stall but he is open to considerable improvement and gets the vote.

Tides Reach out behind a disappointing reappearance when third over C&D on her latest start and the step up to a mile looked to suit. Now that connections know there are no stamina reservations expect to see the filly race more prominent for the same connections who saw Al Kazeem disappoint at Newbury on Saturday.

In the finale the lightly-raced Colourful (8.55) is expected to appreciate the step up to 12f for the first time for Lady Cecil. She again showed signs of greenness when third on her turf debut at Haydock over 10f and whilst she hardly looks thrown on off her opening mark she gets the vote for powerful connections who will be keen to get a win next to her name.

Recent Lingfield winner Bella Varenna has only been raised 4lbs for that recent polytrack success and Shama’s Song looks the main danger for Sir Michael Stoute having suggested that she would appreciate a step up to this trip when runner up last time.

There is an excellent mile handicap at Ayr where I hope to see Ifwecan (4.55) build on his excellent second at Sandown in a valuable handicap last time from a 2lb lower mark. One could argue that he was well drawn and got a soft lead but now that trainer Mark Johnston and jockey Franny Norton know the selection gets a mile.
