The Lancashire Wolverines strengthened their position in the Premiership North with a dominant 41-0 victory over the Nottingham Caesars at the Harvey Hadden Stadium.

The game couldn’t have started better for the Wolverines as Joe Morgan recovered a Caesars’ fumble on the opening play, giving Lancashire excellent field position.

Running back Joe Nicholson dutifully pounded the ball into the end zone for the opening score, before Paul Stewart added the extra point to give the Wolverines a 0-7 lead.

Quarterback David Mead continued his fine season by hitting receiver John Halliwell for the touchdown to give the away team a 0-14 lead after another successful Stewart PAT.

Mead then fired a pinpoint pass to the back corner of the end zone, which receiver Dom Hayhurst reeled in, keeping his feet inbounds expertly for the score. The half time whistle blew with the Wolverines leading 0-21.

Another pinpoint pass from Mead to Hayhurst saw him run half the pitch for his second of the game.

Defence again stepped up, as first Joe Morgan and then Chris Anderson intercepted the Caesars.

With back up players in the game, the Wolverines showed no signs of stopping, as backup quarterback Greg Adam found Halliwell with a laser pass, before the receiver bowled over a Nottingham defensive back and found the end zone for the second time in the game.

The Wolverines are in a strong position for the play-offs. With a home game against the Gateshead Senators next Sunday before heading to the Sheffield Predators the week after, their fate is in their own hands, knowing that two wins will see them into the postseason.
