BURNLEY are expected to make George Boyd a transfer deadline day signing from Hull City today.

The attacking midfielder was at Gawthorpe yesterday, after the Clarets had celebrated their first Premier League point with a goalless draw at home to Manchester United.

A undisclosed fee – but reported in Hull to be in the region of £3m – has been accepted by the Tigers, and at lunchtime yesterday a medical was said to be imminent, with a view to the deal being completed in time for today’s 11pm cut-off.

Hull boss Steve Bruce confirmed that Boyd was having in a Burnley medical and said: “We have accepted a bid.

“George has been a wonderful player for us, but he wants to play regular football and thinks he has a better chance to play regular football on a three-year contract.

“I would like to wish him well.”

Former Peterborough and Stevenage Borough winger Boyd is in the last of the two-year deal he signed from Posh last summer, following a successful loan spell.

The Scotland international, who saw a January 2013 transfer to Nottingham Forest fall through as the result of a failed eye test, has struggled to work his way into Bruce’s new-look City side at this early stage of the season.

His only Premier League appearance was a late cameo against Stoke City. The Scotland international also featured in the Europa League qualifying tie against Lokeren.

But the 28-year-old’s Premier League career seems set to continue with the Clarets.

Burnley will hope that Boyd is not the only new arrival as they look to add defensive reinforcements.

Co-chairman Mike Garlick said the market had gathered pace with Premier League teams finalising their 25-man squads and allowing those who had not made the cut the chance to go elsewhere.

“We’re constantly on the phone to people and talking to people and there are a lot of players being thrown at us,” he said.

“I have to say that we reject most of them because we’re selective, we want people who we think can add to what we’ve got, it’s not easy but we’re still hopeful.

“Agents have contacted us and in fact on Friday a lot of clubs were coming directly because they’ve worked out who they want and maybe who they don’t want and we’ve got to sift through that and work out who’s right for us, both in terms of whether they can add to what we’ve got and if they fit within our structure.”

Asked if he expected to add to his squad before today’s deadline, Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: “I’m extremely hopeful.

“The market has moved forward, we’ve got some money for the first time in a long time and yet the market has jumped forward to a level where it’s very difficult.

“We’ve been first in first out to a number of situations which we thought were ones that we could progress, they haven’t done.

“I must make it clear that I really like the group that you’ve seen today (Saturday).

“I really like the way they work and the way they operate, but we do want strength in depth, we want to improve that strength in depth and we want people who can challenge to move us even further forward.”

Burnley are not expected to allow anyone to leave today.

“We’ve no plans for that,” said Garlick.
