WHILE Carl Fogarty was being crowned king of the jungle, his cousins were backing a competition to find the king of crown green bowls.
Fogartys Insurance, run by brothers Brian and Richard, is sponsoring a competition to help raise funds for Lower Darwen United Reformed Chuch Bowling Club.
The pairs event, which will called Fogartys Doubles, will be held next summer and is hoping to attract some of East Lancashire’s best crown green bowlers.
The competition is open to 32 pairs who will be battling it out for the £600 prize fund - with £200 going to the winners and £100 for the runners-up. Entry fee is £12 and there will be refreshments available all day.
Club member of event organiser John Wyche said: “The competition is a first for our club and hopefully with Fogartys, it will become a much needed event to promote crown green bowls in Blackburn, “Any money raised from the food and raffles will go to keeping our club solvent.”
The competition takes place on Saturday, June 20 and there will be two start times; 9.30am and 11am.
Any pair winning one game will get their entrance fee back.
