THE fourth annual Lancashire Telegraph Grassroots Heroes Awards will take place on Thursday evening on a night to celebrate all that is good in amateur sport.

The awards, once again sponsored and supported by United Utilities, was launched four years ago and have been backed by East Lanc’s top sporting stars - from squash world champion Laura Massaro to Olympic Games silver medal winner Samantha Murray.

The event takes place at Mytton Fold Hotel, Langho where guests will include representatives from Blackburn Rovers, Burnley FC, Accrington Stanley and Lancashire CC. However, the real stars of the evening will be those who are the shortlist for the 10 categories.

The 10 categories are: Senior Team of the Year, Junior Team of the Year, Spirit of Sport Award, Unsung Hero, Lifetime Achievement, Coach of the Year, People’s Choice, Community Club of the year and the Junior and Senior Sports Personality of the Year awards.

The aim of the awards is to recognise and reward those people who contribute so much to the sporting community across East Lancashire - and it promises to be another memorable occasion.
