MATT Taylor will need to feature for Burnley’s development squad at least twice before he is considered for a first-team return.

That is the view of Clarets chief Sean Dyche after welcoming the 33-year-old back into the fold at Gawthorpe.

The former West Ham and Bolton winger returned to first-team training recently, but Dyche admits he isn’t going to be involved in a squad just yet, unlike Stephen Ward, with the Republic of Ireland international an unused substitute in the last two Premier League games.

Taylor started Burnley’s first three league games but he hasn’t featured since August 30 with an Achilles injury and subsequent setbacks.

“He’s back in training, it’s getting him games now,” said the Burnley boss.

“He’s been out long enough now where he’s not going to need one game he’s going to need a few games to get him up and running,” said Dyche.

“We think he’s clear now and he seems to be clear of his injury so we’re hopeful he just gets on now and gets properly match fit.”
