BLACKBURN Rovers fans will pay tribute to the late, great Jack Walker during the FA Cup quarter-final tie at Liverpool.

It is 20 years since Rovers famously lifted the Premiership trophy at Liverpool’s home ground, Anfield.

And to honour the memory of the man whose vision, ambition, wealth and drive made the greatest triumph in the club’s modern day history possible, supporters will hold a minute’s applause in the 20th minute of Sunday’s big match.

Once that is over the 6,000 fans packed into the away end are being urged to break into a chorus of ‘there’s only one Jack Walker’.

The applause and the chant are the brainchild of Rovers supporter Pete Charnley.

Pete, 28, from Blackburn, said: “I decided to organise it with it being the 20th anniversary of Rovers winning the league and with it being Anfield.

“It would be a brilliant way to remember and thank Jack Walker for giving Rovers fans the unforgettable memory of winning the league.

“If it wasn’t for Jack Walker, we wouldn’t have that memory, so I thought it would be the perfect way and place to remember him and thank him for the ultimate prize in English football.

“I’m thankful to all Rovers fans who have got behind the idea and shared it on Facebook and retweeted it constantly on Twitter to spread the message.”

Lifelong Rovers fan Walker took control of the club in January 1991 and within 18 months had led it back into the top flight.

Rovers, under former Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish, finished fourth and second in their first two seasons in the Premiership before winning the title in 1995.
