BLACKBURN Rovers Academy’s strong finish to the U18s Premier League campaign continued on Saturday.

Brian Carey’s side made it three straight wins and clean sheets with a 2-0 victory over Fulham at Brockhall on Saturday.

Goals either side of half-time from Ramirez Howarth and Trey Pemberton did the damage.

And Rovers coach Carey said: “We were very pleased with the way we played defensively.

“We looked very strong and resolute.

“From an attacking point of view I felt we could have been better, there were times when we were rushed in possession.”

Rovers were fast out of the traps and they took a deserved lead in the 20th minute when Howarth fired home after Sam Joel and Josh Askew combined to set him up.

That sparked Fulham into life and only strong defending prevented them from equalising.

At the other end Rovers were guilty of wasting the half-chances that came their way.

But Pemberton, the match-winner at Newcastle United one week earlier, made no mistake in the 70th minute, finishing smartly after Modou Cham flicked on an Andy Fisher goal kick.

And the striker went close to scoring again late on when he hit the woodwork.

Rovers head to Arsenal on Saturday.
