Yes I do feel that we should be giving young players like John O’Sullivan and Darragh Lenihan some game time now because it is the only way we are going to see if they are good enough for the first team next season.

And with us staying in the Championship it appears that cutbacks are looking very likely.

We need to bring through players from the Academy, players like Connor Mahoney, who I thought should have come on against Brighton on Saturday.

There’s not a lot to lose now by giving young enthusiastic players a chance. The match against Brighton was such a shambles that it’s hard to imagine things can get any worse.

Time and time again players promise to deliver, give oh so positive interviews and then let the fans down. Couple that with two in-demand strikers who often can’t get a place in the starting line-up and you wonder what is really going on at the club.

We’ll need new young talent because our better players are not going to want to be around next season.

With the exception of the FA Cup replay, Rovers are now only playing for the pride they so sadly lacked last weekend.

If young players like Darragh Lenihan, John O’Sullivan and Connor Mahoney are to progress then they need a run in the team and perhaps their verve will inspire it in other, more jaded, team-mates.

Given the injury list, and the aforementioned replay four days later, why not rest some key players and give youth a chance against Leeds. What better way to test a young lad’s mettle than at an Elland Road in full intimidatory mode?
