THOMAS Corrigan edged a tremendous battle with Danny Collinge to win the Wholan Nook Trail Race.

It proved third time lucky for Barlick Fell Runners ace Corrigan after finishing second and third in the opening two events in the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix series.

He crossed the line in a winning time of 31 minutes and 39 seconds but only after being pushed all the way by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Collinge, who was second in 32mins 2secs.

Trawden AC’s Dale Grimshaw was third in 32mins 27secs and Collinge’s clubmate Jordan McDonald fourth and the fastest junior in 32mins 43secs.

There were also age group prizes for Skipton AC’s Michael Keedy, who was the fastest and M40 and fifth overall in 32mins 45secs, and Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Andrew Stubbs, who was the fastest M45 and seventh overall in 33mins 28secs.

Sandwiched between that pair was Blackburn Harriers’ Chris Barnes in sixth in 32mins 56secs.

Barlick Fell Runners duo Andrew Collins (ninth in 33mins 35secs) and Andrew Chew (10th in 33mins 42secs) also made the top 10.

Accrington Road Runners’ Lisa Parker was the fastest female and 50th overall in 38mins 52secs.

But she was given a real run for her money by Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Claire Vincent, who was just one place behind in 38mins 35secs.

The female age group prizes went to Trawden AC’s Kelly Whiteside (F40 and 57th overall in 39mins 26secs) and Nicola Nuttall (F45 and 66th overall in 40mins 31secs), Accrington Road Runners’ Deborah Gowans (F50 and 61st overall in 39mins 42secs), Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Irene Roche (F55 and 82nd overall in 41mins 55secs) and Karin Goss (F65 and 146th overall in 54mins 54secs), and Barlick Fell Runners’ Jean Rawlinson (F60 and 129th overall in 48mins 32secs).

The other male age group prizes went to Blackburn Harriers’ Gary Pearse (M50 and 17th overall in 34mins 43secs), and Clayton-le-Moors Harriers’ Kevin Davies (M55 and 19th overall in 34mins 49secs).

David Scott won the M70 and was 97th overall in 43mins 50secs) while Ted Orrell (M75 and 124th overall in 43mins 50secs), Rossendale Harriers’ Andre Corbishley (M60 and 44th overall in 38mins 27secs) and Ken Taylor (M65 and 62nd overall in 39mins 50secs) were also among the prizewinners on the day.
