MIDFIELD star Ben Marshall has brushed off speculation linking him with a move back to Sheffield Wednesday and insisted – I’m happy at Blackburn Rovers.

In the past three transfer windows there have been reports that Wednesday were looking to re-sign Marshall.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful five-month loan spell at Hillsborough three years ago and is still held in high regard by Owls fans.

But Marshall has told Rovers supporters he does not want to go anywhere.

He said: “I’m happy here and I’ve got no plans to be going anywhere.

“I think I’ve been linked with Sheffield Wednesday in probably every transfer window.

“It’s nice to have that bit of interest but I’m really happy here and I’m really looking forward to the start of the new season.”

Rovers will continue their preparations for the 2015-16 Championship campaign when they make the short trip to neighbours Accrington Stanley today for their first friendly of the summer (3pm).

Gary Bowyer’s squad have been back at training at Brockhall for the past two weeks and Marshall admits he is itching to get back out on to the pitch.

“It’s been good to be back, it’s always nice to see the lads and hear the stories about what they’ve been up to,” he said.

“But it’s also been tough, but that’s exactly what’s needed.

“I miss football when I’m off, and I’ve not played a game for a few months now, so I’m really looking forward to the game on Saturday and hopefully we can start off with a win.”

Only strikers Rudy Gestede, with 22, and Jordan Rhodes, with 21, scored more goals for Rovers than Marshall last season.

That was despite the fact that Marshall was played in four different positions – left-wing, right-wing, right-back, attacking centre-midfield – during the course of the campaign.

And, with Rovers boss Gary Bowyer needing as many versatile players as possible given the restrictions imposed on his squad by the club’s Financial Fair Play embargo, there is a chance there will be times this season when former England U21s international will be moved around the pitch again.

And Marshall said: “I don’t mind it and in training this morning I was all over the gaff – right-back, centre-midfield, the lot!

“But I’m just happy to play and I feel comfortable in a few positions to be fair.

“The manager knows that, so wherever I play, hopefully I can make a difference.”
