FORMER Liverpool and Newcastle United midfielder Danny Guthrie is on trial at Blackburn Rovers and could play some part in tonight’s friendly at Bury (7.45pm).
Guthrie, 28, who is looking for a new club following his release from Championship rivals Reading in May, is named on the bench for Gary Bowyer’s side for the Gigg Lane clash.
Rovers boss Bowyer will again be without wantaway strikers Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede.
And injuries also rule out Corry Evans, Chris Brown, Darragh Lenihan and Chris Taylor.
Ben Marshall, however, returns after illness ruled him out of Saturday’s 2-0 win at Oldham Athletic.
On-trial forward Nathan Delfouneso came off the bench to open the scoring in that match.
And his reward is a place in a Rovers starting-line-up that will be captained by Grant Hanley and will feature David Raya in goal.
Markus Olsson and new signings Fode Koita and Sacha Petshi are not in Bowyer’s squad.
Bury: Walton, Riley, Hussey, Clarke, Hope, Clarke, Pope, Jones, Soares, Pugh, Cameron. Subs: Sedgwick, Burgess, Lainton, Rose.
Rovers: Raya, Henley, Hanley, Duffy, Spurr, O'Sullivan, Lowe, Williamson, Conway, Delfouneso, Marshall. Subs: Steele, Forrester, Mahoney, Nyambe, Kilgallon, Tomlinson, Guthrie.
