WITH Blackburn Rovers hamstrung by a Financial Fair Play embargo it proved to be a quiet transfer deadline day at Ewood Park.

But that was not the case for a number of their Championship rivals.

Nottingham Forest, the only other club to be under an embargo, signed striker Chris O’Grady on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion and were hoping to tie up a further loan move for Crystal Palace midfielder Jonny Williams.

Bur Forest lost prized asset Michail Antonio to West Ham United for £7m and also allowed fellow wideman Jamie Paterson to join Huddersfield Town on loan.

Derby County continued their big spending ways with a  £10m double deal for midfielders Bradley Johnson from Norwich City and Jacob Butterfield from Huddersfield Town.

Reading were also active, signing Watford striker Matej Vydra on a season-long loan.

It was reported that the Royals have agreed to pay the Hornets a £2.5m loan fee.

Rovers and Forest are not able to pay sort of fee for players – loan or permanent.

Reading sold centre-back Michael Hector to Premier League champions Chelsea for £4m.

But Chelsea have allowed Hector to remain on loan with the Royals for the rest of the campaign.

Wolves swooped for £1m Swindon Town winger Nathan Byrne but let centre-back Richard Stearman leave for Fulham for £2m.

Preston North End signed Stevie May from Sheffield Wednesday on a permanent deal and fellow striker Eoin Doyle on loan from Cardiff City.

Highly-rated Shrewsbury Town midfielder Ryan Woods, who impressed against Rovers in the Capital One Cup last month, made the move to Brentford.

There were also permanent signings for Leeds United (Jordan Botaka from Excelsior), Middlesbrough (Carlos de Pena from Nacional) and Rotherham United (Lee Camp from Bournemouth).

Hull City lost Nikica Jelavic to West Ham for £2m but replaced him with Stabaek striker Adama Diomande.

Bristol City signed defenders Liam Moore and Nathan Baker on loan from Leicester City and Aston Villa respectively.

And QPR, who have yet to be punished for failing Financial Fair Play, completed a season-long loan for Watford defender Gabriele Angella.
