ALAN Life led the way for Clayton-le-Moors Harriers in Saturday’s Pendleton Fell Race.

Despite it being a Bank Holiday weekend, and despite it clashing with a number of long-standing show races, a very respectable 123 runners took part in the short but tough event around Pendle Hill.

And first home for the hosts was Life in 41 minutes and 22 seconds.

His time ensured he claimed the M50 age group prize.

Life was joined in the top 20 by six of his clubmates, Neil Hardiman (14th in 41mins 46secs), Mike Wallis (15th in 42mins 9secs), Andrew McFarlane (16th in 42mins 31secs), Carl Helliwell (17th in 42mins 32secs), Michael O’Donnell (19th in 42mins 57secs), and Andrew Priory (20th in 43mins 12secs).

Claire Vincent was Clayton-le-Moors’ first female finisher in 48mins 46secs.

That time ensured she finished as the first senior lady, the fourth lady home, and 55th overall (48mins 46secs).

Linda Lord was the fastest L60, the second lady home and 80th overall in 53mins 44secs.

Chris Funnell was 26th in 43mins 56secs and he was followed by Ivan Whigham (33rd in 44mins 44secs), Richard Briscoe (44th in 46mins 34secs), Mark Nutter (48th in 47mins 29secs), Jeffrey Pickup (50th in 47mins 17secs), Peter Browning (60th in 49mins 23secs), Keith Thompson (69th in 51mins 4secs) and Andre Firth (70th in 51mins 30secs).

The rest of the Clayton-le-Moors contingent consisted of Alison Dugdale (sixth lady and 71st overall in 51mins 35secs), Stephen Bury (75th in 53mins 14secs), Martin Brady (76th in 53mins 27secs), Peter Dugdale (83rd in 53mins 58secs), Irene Roche (ninth lady and 85th overall in 54mins 47secs), Linda Bostock (10th lady and 86th overall in 54mins 52secs), Barbara Savage (11th lady and 90th overall in 55mins 49secs), Martin Griffin (98th in 58mins 2secs), Robert Hirst (104th in 59mins 56secs), Michael Frost (110th in 1 hour 2mins 51secs), Kath Brady (18th lady and 111th overall in 1hr 4mins 48secs), Karin Goss (19th lady and 112th overall in 1hr 5mins 36secs), and John Francis (122nd in 1hr 25mins 11secs).

Sam Gibbs was first home for Barlick Fell Runners, finishing in third position.
