BLACKBURN Harriers rounded off a track and field season to remember when some of their highly-rated young athletes took part in the England Athletics Age Group Championships in Bedford.
Jacob Roberts had double reason to cheer after finishing eighth in the under-17s men’s hammer with a personal best throw of 57.55m, which broke his own club record.
He was delighted with his performance.
He said: “I was one of two in the lower year of the U17s hammer competition and I qualified for the top eight, out of 12, which I was chuffed with.
“I gained a new personal best of 57.55m, nearly a metre more than last week’s throw, which I was really happy with.”
Emily Warren also enjoyed a superb weekend.
She set a massive personal best of 11.69secs to finish third in her U15s girls’ 75m hurdles heat and qualify for the semi-finals, where she finished sixth in a time of 11.74secs.
Emily said: “I am very happy with my results because I got a massive personal best and came third in my heat and 10th overall out of 27.”
The ever-improving Charlotte Williams achieved a top-eight finish when claiming eighth spot in the U15s girls’ hammer with a throw of 41.98m.
She said: “At the end of May I had a PB of 34 metres and now in just three months I have got a PB of nearly 44 metres.
“I can’t wait for next season when I will be in the upper age of U15s, and I wish to improve the same as I have done this year.”
Morgan Angland qualified from her heat in the U17s women’s 80m hurdles in 12.18secs before finishing seventh in the semi-finals in 12.21secs.
She said: “I’m really happy with my performance to end the U17s season – a lot better than recent performances.”
