IF Gary Bowyer chooses to make the one more signing he is allowed, then I think he should go for a striker.

The workrate was certainly there on Friday night and, on the whole, I thought Blackburn deserved to beat Bolton.

The clean sheet was a positive, too, and in the two games I’ve watched live now, it’s clear they have worked on their shape, worked at being more solid, and worked at staying concentrated for the full 90 minutes.

But after watching the Brighton and Bolton games, my concern would be where the goals are going to come from if Jordan Rhodes doesn’t score.

No disrespect to the strikers who have come in – and we have to remember Gary’s hands are tied with who he can sign – but I just can’t see them scoring 20 goals a season.

I do hope they prove me wrong and, if one even manages to get 10-15 goals, it would take the pressure off Jordan.

But there is no doubt it is on him again after Rudy Gestede was sold.

Don’t get me wrong he’s done the business in the three seasons he’s been at the club and I’ve got no doubt he will do it again.

But we’ve already seen this season how hard it is when he’s not playing.

That’s why I was delighted to see the transfer window close with him still at the club.

Yes Blackburn may have got their embargo lifted but it would have been very hard to replace one prolific striker, let alone two, with the money Gary would have been able to spend.

I’m not sure whether Jordan expected to get a move during this window or not.

But he’s the sort of lad who’ll get his head down, get on with it, and go about proving once again what a great goalscorer he is.

All he can do is continue to score goals and if people come in for him, people come in for him.

You could see he was a bit short of fitness on Friday night but he gave 100 per cent for the team, kept the defenders on their toes throughout, and showed good movement.

His first goal will come soon enough and when it does, Blackburn will be up and running.

But, as I say, that’s pressure and that’s why if Gary can make another loan signing, I’d like to see him bring in another forward.

I’m sure Gary won’t be alone in looking for one as, as a manager, you can never have enough strikers.

If I was Gary I’d look for a big man, someone who can take the hustle and bustle side of the game away from Jordan, who then can concentrate on doing on what he does best.
