BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche praised the resilience of his side as they weathered second half pressure from Hull City to claim all three points against the Championship leaders.

Having controlled the first half the Clarets were on the back foot in the second, but Sam Vokes finished cooly when Allan McGregor spilled Joey Barton’s shot from the edge of the box with 13 minutes to go.

Victory moves Burnley to within a point of the Championship’s top two.

“I thought first half we played very well against a very strong side, an experienced side with an experienced manager,” said Dyche.

“We thought it might be a tight affair, when they’ve been on the road they’ve stayed very compact and broken on teams.

“I thought we controlled the feel of the game and some of the quality of the game in the first half.

“In the first 20 minutes of the second half they were progressive, they got forward and put us under a lot more pressure.

“We’ve shown good resilience in many games this season and it was there again. Other than the Hernandez chance, which was the chance of the game, I don’t think Tom has had much to do.

“We got stronger in the last 15 or 20 minutes, we scored a good goal and didn’t get a penalty that was one.”
