CLITHEROE based free of charge junior cricket coaching club, Ribble Valley Raiders, received a terrific boost to their season by the way of hoodie sponsorship from a local businessman .

Mr Brian Shipston of North West Finishes was delighted to provide financial assistance for the eager young cricketers.

Mr Shipston added, " It's a pleasure to help Ribble Valley Raiders kit the children out with what will prove to be a vital piece of clothing - considering the weather so far at the start of the season . The boys and girls will look very smart and hopefully turn up for training in their new hoodies - even on the coldest of evenings!"

Raiders Head Coach Farouk Hussain commented , We are very grateful to Mr Shipston for his support as we continue to grow as a club. It's very heartwarming that local businesses recognise what we are providing for the local community and are helping us every step of the way."

Meanwhile, the U11s made history as they became the club's first ever team to compete in a competitive league fixture in the Ribblesdale Youth League.

Driving rain and hail showers before and during the game at The Arbories( Padiham CC) weren't going to stop the Raiders from registering a nail biting victory . Having restricted Padiham to nett 249, the visitors seemed out of the game as the last pair went to the crease. A flurry of boundaries swung the game in the Raiders favour as they sneaked home by 2 runs .

Coach Farouk Hussain was delighted with his charges , "It wasn't much fun out there due to the awful weather . We stuck at it and proved that it's never over . I'm thrilled for the youngsters as they have worked hard all winter for this."
