WE’VE heard all the names bandied about. We know some are experienced and some are not. We know interviews have taken place. Now it’s time for Blackburn Rovers owners Venky’s to name the new manager.

There’s nothing wrong with taking your time to get the right man but the way it’s going the fixtures for the new season will be out before they appoint someone.

The players who are out of contract are in limbo, the players who have gone back to their parent clubs are in limbo, and even the coaching staff who have remained at the club are in limbo.

Alan Irvine and Rob Kelly can man the fort and put preparations in place for pre-season but even they do not know whether they’re going to be wanted by the new manager when he’s eventually appointed.

It’s just needs sorting out. It needs Venky’s to make up their mind and turn around and say, ‘here’s our decision, here’s the new manager’.

But that’s been their problem over the years – the time it takes to make decisions.

It’s okay for them to say, like they have done this week, that they’re not going to sell the club or any part of it, and that they’re in it for the long haul, but actions speak louder than words.

They need to understand how football works. It isn’t like their other businesses. Decisions have to be made quickly.

And if they can’t do that then they need people in there who can help them. People who will be able to say to them, ‘we need this doing yesterday, not in two weeks’ time’.

I think they need a PR person who will be able to get their point of view across and who will be able to address the concerns of the fans.

And I also think they need another person at the club who knows how football works and can advise them on decisions like the appointment of a new manager.

Rovers are already behind the rest. Most clubs by now know what they want for next season.

You turn on Sky Sports News and clubs are already signing players.

But the longer Rovers leave it, the harder it’s going to be to bring in the players they want and need, because there’s no guarantee the players they want to keep will want to stay.

You wouldn’t blame some of those lads who have been left in limbo if they turned around and said, ‘I’ve got to fix myself up somewhere else’.

It’s June on Wednesday, the release of the fixtures are three weeks after that, and the lads will be back in a training a week after that.

It just needs sorting out.
