BURNLEY FC has reached an agreement with Liverpool to switch their 2016/17 Premier League fixtures.

The Reds wrote to Burnley asking them to switch the fixture with development work taking place on Anfield's Main Stand all summer.

Although Liverpool were confident it would all be sorted in time for the match on August 20, they wanted to play their first three games of the season on the road to give them time to sort out any issues that may arise from the work.

The switch means the Clarets start their Premier League return with two consecutive home games, with Swansea the visitors on the opening day of the campaign, and five of their first seven league games are at Turf Moor.

It means Sean Dyche's side will face Liverpool at Anfield on March 12 with a run of four successive away games in February and March.

A statement on the Burnley FC website said: "Burnley Football Club can confirm an agreement has been reached with Liverpool Football Club to reverse their two Premier League games for the 2016/17 season.

"Having given this our full consideration, with the full involvement and agreement of manager Sean Dyche, and having secured benefits to the club, we have granted permission for a reversal of the fixtures.

"Burnley Football Club fully appreciate this fixture swap may cause some inconvenience to a number of supporters, for which we apologise.

"However, we would like reiterate that following the unusual nature of this particular set of circumstances, fixtures are always subject to change.

"The first match, originally scheduled for Anfield on Saturday, August 20, 2016, will now take place at Turf Moor (3pm kick off).

"The return meeting of the two clubs is scheduled to take place at Anfield on Sunday, 12 March, 2017 (4pm KO).

"However, the precise date and kick-off time of this game, as with all Premier League games, still remains subject to TV scheduling."
