JOHN Coleman hailed his battling side for toughing it out in the duel of East Lancashire as Matty Pearson struck at the death to sink top flight neighbours Burnley and book a trip to the Olympic Stadium.

The Reds will face West Ham United in the third round of the EFL Cup after the full-back hammered home from close range with seconds left before the clash went to penalties.

And a delighted Coleman said afterwards: “It was a great battling performance, similar to the Bradford game in the last round.

“I’ve got to take my hat off to the players – they worked their socks off and these are lads who are playing nearly every week. They defended magnificently.

“I thought we’d got a winner with Rommy Boco’s header, but then up pops Matty with his goal.

“It’s a fantastic feeling but I want more. I want the crowd on the edge of their seats, I want the whole package.”
