BLACKBURN Rovers Ladies will this weekend look to resume pole position in the FA Women’s Premier League Northern Division and stretch their winning run in all competitions to five matches.

Gemma Donnelly’s side were not in league action on Sunday. Instead they were winning 3-1 at home Nottingham Forest in the FA Women’s Premier League Cup.

That allowed Fylde Ladies to take over top spot with a 5-1 victory at Newcastle United, who Rovers head to on Sunday (2pm).

It will be the first of two meetings between the clubs in the space of two weeks after they were drawn together in the second round of the FA Women’s Premier League Cup.

Rovers set-up the Newcastle clash with a comfortable victory over Forest that ensured they made it four triumphs on the trot and 36 goals in six matches so far this season.

Lynda Shepherd opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Saffron Jordan was pushed from behind in the box.

Two minutes later and the advantage was doubled as Jordan raced on to a smart through ball and finished impressively.

However almost immediately Forest halved the deficit with Katie Lowder poking home the rebound after a cross came back off the crossbar.

Ria Montgomery later rattled the woodwork for Rovers, after Natasha Fenton went close with a free kick, and the game remained in the balance until late on when Kayleigh McDonald rose highest to head home from a corner.
