Josh Cullen has become a key man for Burnley since the start of the season – and he isn’t shying away from responsibility.

The midfielder impressed under Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht, and it was no surprise that the manager wanted to bring him to Turf Moor.

Cullen has been a mainstay in the side, helping the Clarets climb to the top of the Championship table before the World Cup break.

The 26-year-old explained the area he can help his team-mates once they have stepped across the white line.

“I suppose I have probably had a bit of a head start in knowing certain aspects about the system and the style of play, and little tactics that he tries to implement,” he told The Lancashire Telegraph.

“If I can try to get those across while we are out on the pitch at times and try to bridge that gap between the manager and players who might be getting used to the new style and tactics, then I will try to do that as best as I can. That is something I have been trying to do.”

Over the past few months, Cullen has formed an affective partnership with Jack Cork in the middle of the pitch.

The Republic of Ireland international is relishing playing with Cork and reckons he has benefitted from his experience.

“I am really enjoying it,” he added. “I always say that it is enjoyable when you play with good players, and Corky is one of them.

“He has played at the highest level throughout his career so to play alongside him and learn from him has been brilliant so far this season.”

Burnley are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they make the trip to Queens Park Rangers in front of the TV cameras.

The London club are currently without a permanent manager, with Michael Beale leaving his position to join Rangers during the break.

“You never quite know how a team is going to play when a new manager comes in, but it is still the same players and we’re diligent in our preparation,” said Cullen. “I’m sure we will be ready for whatever they throw at us.”
