Burnley will be aiming to cause an upset when they head to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in the Carabao Cup fourth round (KO 8pm).

Vincent Kompany’s side overcame League Two side Crawley in the previous round thanks to a brace from Anass Zaroury.

The Clarets currently have a healthy lead at the top of the Championship table following Saturday’s 3-1 win against Middlesbrough at Turf Moor.

Team news

Nathan Tella and Vitinho were both absent from the squad against Middlesbrough due to illness and injury respectively.

Connor Roberts was sent off at the weekend after a controversial handball decision, which has now been rescinded.

Scott Twine was taken off during the final stages, but it was a tactical change due to the red card rather than an enforced one.

As for the hosts, Jadon Sancho looks set to miss out after he was not involved in training on Tuesday.

Opposition lowdown

The fourth-round tie is United’s first competitive fixture in more than a month following the World Cup break.

Erik ten Hag’s side recorded a 2-1 win at Fulham in their last outing, Alejandro Garnacho scoring a dramatic winner in the third minute of stoppage time.

The Old Trafford club sit fifth in the Premier League table and reached this stage following a 4-2 victory against Aston Villa in the third round.

Head-to-head

Burnley have faced United 134 times in their history, with a record of 45 wins, 24 draws and 65 defeats.

The points were shared when the sides met in the Premier League back in February, with Jay Rodriguez cancelling out Paul Pogba’s opener.

The Clarets’ last win at Old Trafford came in January 2020. Rodriguez and Chris Wood were both on target that day.
