NEW Blackburn Rovers boss Owen Coyle has confirmed the club has offered fresh terms to Tommy Spurr.

But the seven other first-team players who are out of contract this summer are set to leave Rovers.

A new deal was put to Spurr after Coyle made it clear he wanted the left-back to stay at the club.

But the 28-year-old, who has made 84 appearances in three seasons for Rovers, has yet to put pen to paper.

And it is understood Spurr is also weighing up offers from elsewhere which were lodged before Coyle was installed into the Ewood Park hotseat 12 days ago.

“We have spoken with Tommy and with his agent and, if there’s a deal to be done with Blackburn Rovers, then that’s one we’d certainly like to conclude,” said Coyle.

“Having said that I’m sure his agent will have been speaking to a number of clubs in those weeks since the season ended.

“With that in mind we’ll keep continuing the dialogue. There’s nothing over the line on that one but, as I say, we’ll keep continuing the dialogue.”

Goalkeeper Simon Eastwood, centre-back Matt Kilgallon, midfielders Chris Taylor and Lee Williamson, and strikers Simeon Jackson, Chris Brown and Nathan Delfouneso will also be out contract come July 1.

But it is understood that they have not been offered new deals.

Spurr missed the final seven games of last season with an Achilles injury.

But, speaking at the end of the campaign, he assured he would be fully fit for pre-season.

Spurr said: “It’s settled down now. I’d been carrying it for quite a few games, and I was struggling through, but after the Preston game at home it flared up.

“I decided I couldn’t keep limping through games as it would have ended up costing me.

“I had a scan on it, and then kept trying to do little bits, but it kept flaring up, so I had to leave it.

“But it’s settled down now and I’ll go away and start my preparation for pre-season.”

Coyle currently has zero left-backs and zero strikers contracted to the club beyond June 30.

He has put goalscorers at the top of his shopping list and will this week speak to a number of potential targets.

It is understood that free agents Danny Graham, who scored seven goals in 18 games for Rovers last season while on loan from Sunderland, and Anthony Stokes, who has been released from Celtic, are two of the strikers he will hold talks with.

Coyle also wants to add pace to the flanks with Liam Feeney, whose Bolton Wanderers contract expires on June 30, being lined up.

Rovers, meanwhile, have announced the deadline for season-ticket holders to claim their existing seat for next season has been extended.

With many fans only just receiving their renewal packs, the deadline has been moved back a week to Monday, July 11.
