A GROUP of Blackburn Rovers fans have come up with an idea of raising money for a charity which cares for people across East Lancashire – while also protesting against the club’s owners.
Rovers supporters who want Venky’s to leave Ewood Park are asked to donate £2 to the ‘Two Quid to Get Rid’ JustGiving page.
The fans behind the campaign hope it will raise awareness of the strength of feeling against Venky’s and generate funds for East Lancashire Hospice.
All proceeds will go to the hospice, which provides specialist, supportive and end-of-life care for patients and their families from Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.
In little over 12 hours £200 was raised with that figure increasing to nearly £800 last night as word spread via social media.
Rovers supporter Matthew McDonough, who set up the ‘Two Quid to Get Rid’ JustGiving page, said: “The response has been fantastic from fans.
“Everyone is so frustrated at what is happening at Rovers and we wanted to protest but also do something positive.
“It is fantastic that we are able to raise money for such a good cause.”
