A council has asked residents to keep doors and windows closed after complaints of a ‘burning smell’ in Great Harwood.

People were also asked to submit a report to the council so they could investigate further.

Hyndburn council said: “If you can smell or see smoke in the proximity, please keep your windows and doors closed.

“If smoke/a fire is causing a pollution concern, but there is not a threat to life or property, please report this directly to us at Hyndburn Borough Council via our online form.

“By using our reporting form, including attaching images or videos when possible, you can help us to bring about any necessary action.

“We will continue to work in partnership with Lancashire Fire and Rescue, The Environment Agency and Lancashire Constabulary to address concerns about the impact of burning.”

It is not the first time residents have smelt burning in and around Great Harwood, as reports have been made in previous years.

According to some, the source of the smell has been due to fires from businesses in the area.
